Overview

LMO7 antisense RNA 1 (LMO7-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 13. It is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the protein-coding LMO7 gene and may regulate the expression of LMO7 through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference or modulation of chromatin structure. Its precise biological role remains uncertain, but preliminary research suggests it may play a part in cellular proliferation and differentiation. LMO7-AS1 is also known as UCHL3-AS1 due to its genomic proximity and transcript overlap with the UCHL3 gene in some contexts; these aliases are interchangeable in recent bioinformatic and gene databases. There are currently no drugs targeting this molecule, and no clinical safety concerns have been recorded in the literature.

Mechanism of action

None documented for drug targeting (as lncRNAs are not typical drug targets)

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (specifically, of the protein-coding gene LMO7)Possible involvement in cell proliferation and differentiationOther (exact functions remain undetermined)
04

Disease associations

Evidence exists for its genetic region in association with diabetic retinopathyPotential involvement in red blood cell traitsOther (the biological and disease relevance remains under investigation)
05

Safety considerations

None documented (not a therapeutic target)
06

Interacting drugs

None have been reported in the literature or referenced databases as of the most recent update
07

Biomarkers

Genetic variants in the LMO7-AS1/LMO7 locus (e.g., rs3818355, rs2224797) may act as biomarkers for diabetic retinopathy and red blood cell traits, but this pertains to the locus, not this RNA individually
