LMX1A antisense RNA 1 (LMX1A-AS1)

Target
LMX1A-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA (antisense lncRNA)
01

Overview

LMX1A antisense RNA 1 is a human long non-coding RNA gene, antisense to the LMX1A locus. As an antisense lncRNA, it is transcribed from the opposite strand of the LMX1A gene and may regulate the expression of LMX1A via transcriptional interference or epigenetic effects, in analogy with other antisense lncRNAs[2][4]. Its biological function appears to be limited to gene regulation, with no known direct protein expression, disease associations, drug interactions, or clinical biomarker roles currently reported[5]. The gene is affiliated with the general lncRNA class and is cataloged in major human gene databases. Further functional characterization is currently lacking.

Biological functions

Transcriptional regulation (inferred from general properties of antisense lncRNAs, which modulate expression of corresponding sense genes[2][4])Likely regulation of LMX1A gene expression (by antisense interaction/inhibition or chromatin remodeling; specific robust mechanistic details for LMX1A-AS1 are limited, inferred from analogy with other antisense lncRNAs[2][4])
