Overview

lncRNA-MIF (ODC1 divergent transcript) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from a locus adjacent to the ODC1 gene, a well-known MYC target[2][4]. Its expression is directly upregulated by c-Myc, and it forms part of a feedback loop in which it enhances the expression of Fbxw7, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, by acting as a microRNA sponge for miR-586. This leads to increased proteasomal degradation of c-Myc protein and attenuates aerobic glycolysis and tumorigenesis, suggesting a tumor suppressor role[2][4][5]. lncRNA-MIF has been described primarily in cancer cell studies and may represent a regulatory layer controlling oncogene expression and metabolic reprogramming in tumors. Currently, there are no drugs targeting lncRNA-MIF and it is not used as a biomarker or therapeutic target, but its function in cancer metabolism and MYC regulation remains an area of active research.
