Overview

lncRNA p53 regulated and ESC associated 2 (LNCPRESS2) is a long non-coding RNA gene situated on chromosome 4 (4q22.1), characterized by three exons[5][7]. It belongs to a set of approximately 40 lncRNAs in human embryonic stem cells whose transcription is regulated by p53 during differentiation, often mediated by changes in chromatin state and epigenetic landscape[2][4][6][8]. Expression of LNCPRESS2 is high in pluripotent hESCs and repressed by p53 during differentiation, suggesting a role in the maintenance of pluripotency and the regulation of stem cell fate[2][4]. Although LNCPRESS1—a closely related molecule—has been experimentally shown to interact with the chromatin-modifying protein SIRT6 and safeguard ESC pluripotency, there is as yet limited direct functional data specific to LNCPRESS2[2][4][6][8]. LNCPRESS2’s p53-dependent regulation and ESC specificity suggest potential relevance in stem cell biology and cancer, but it is not considered a conventional therapeutic target or clinical biomarker at this time[1][3][5][7][11].

Mechanism of action

Not established (no drugs are known to target this molecule directly; potential modulation would involve indirect regulation via p53 pathway agonists/antagonists but not as a primary target)

03

Biological functions

Regulation of stem cell pluripotencyp53-dependent transcriptional regulation during ESC differentiationChromatin state modulation (epigenetic regulation)
04

Disease associations

Potential role in cancer (lncRNAs regulated by p53 often impact cancer biology, but specific disease associations for LNCPRESS2 are not yet clearly characterized in the literature)Other (possible involvement in stem cell function/differentiation, but no direct established disease linkage)
