Target intelligence / Profile preview
lncRNA p53 regulated and ESC associated 2 (LNCPRESS2) is a long non-coding RNA gene situated on chromosome 4 (4q22.1), characterized by three exons[5][7]. It belongs to a set of approximately 40 lncRNAs in human embryonic stem cells whose transcription is regulated by p53 during differentiation, often mediated by changes in chromatin state and epigenetic landscape[2][4][6][8]. Expression of LNCPRESS2 is high in pluripotent hESCs and repressed by p53 during differentiation, suggesting a role in the maintenance of pluripotency and the regulation of stem cell fate[2][4]. Although LNCPRESS1—a closely related molecule—has been experimentally shown to interact with the chromatin-modifying protein SIRT6 and safeguard ESC pluripotency, there is as yet limited direct functional data specific to LNCPRESS2[2][4][6][8]. LNCPRESS2’s p53-dependent regulation and ESC specificity suggest potential relevance in stem cell biology and cancer, but it is not considered a conventional therapeutic target or clinical biomarker at this time[1][3][5][7][11].
Not established (no drugs are known to target this molecule directly; potential modulation would involve indirect regulation via p53 pathway agonists/antagonists but not as a primary target)
