Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1002 (LINC01002) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that belongs to the subclass of long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs), which are transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides located in genomic regions that do not overlap with annotated protein-coding genes[3][5][7]. LINC01002 has been identified as a regulatory RNA involved in the modulation of gene expression, notably through acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA). Recent research demonstrates that LINC01002 can bind to and sequester specific microRNAs (e.g., miR-4324), thereby modulating the expression of target mRNAs such as FRMD8. This regulatory axis is implicated in the suppression of interferon-beta induction by the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein, indicating a mechanistic role for LINC01002 in immune evasion during viral infection[2]. LINC01002 has also appeared in gene expression studies related to cancer, suggesting potential (though not fully established) links to oncogenic networks[4]. It is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and currently, there are no known drugs that directly target LINC01002 or validated biomarkers or safety concerns specifically associated with its modulation.
