Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1012 (LINC01012) is a member of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) family, specifically a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), defined as RNA transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides that do not overlap with protein-coding genes[1][5]. It does not encode a protein product; instead, it exerts regulatory functions at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, commonly affecting chromatin modification, gene expression, and mRNA regulation[5]. LINC01012 has been shown to promote the proliferation and migration of cancer cells, notably in cervical cancer[2]. Its oncogenic effects are partially mediated by downregulating cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2D (CDKN2D), a negative cell cycle regulator, leading to enhanced tumor growth in vitro and in vivo[2]. Elevated LINC01012 expression is associated with poorer prognosis in cervical cancer and has also been implicated as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target in gastric cancer, with knockdown reducing proliferation of cancer cellsproliferation[4]. LINC01012 and similar lincRNAs are being studied as candidate biomarkers for patient selection and prognosis in cancer, though no targeted therapeutics are established at this time[2][4][5].
Not currently established. LINC01012 is being investigated as a *potential* oncogenic target; mechanism of proposed suppression involves modulation of cell cycle regulators (e.g., CDKN2D).
