Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1018 (LINC01018) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) predominantly located on chromosome 5. It does not encode a protein but functions as a regulator of gene expression through interactions with microRNAs and, to a lesser extent, with RNA-binding proteins. LINC01018 is highly enriched in liver tissue and plays roles in both metabolic regulation (including the modulation of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation in the liver) and cancer biology. In various cancers (glioma, acute myeloid leukemia, hepatocellular carcinoma), LINC01018 appears to act as a tumor suppressor: it is typically downregulated, and its overexpression inhibits cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, partly by binding to oncogenic microRNAs such as miR-182-5p, miR-499a-5p, and miR-942-5p. There is emerging evidence that LINC01018 may serve as a disease biomarker and a potential therapeutic target, particularly in cancer and certain metabolic disorders
