Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1040 (LINC01040) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) family. LincRNAs are defined as non-protein-coding transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides that do not overlap with protein-coding loci. They commonly function in nuclear chromatin remodeling, regulation of nearby or distant gene transcription, genome organization, and fine-tuning gene expression with high tissue specificity. LincRNAs, including LINC01040, may be involved in developmental, cellular, and disease processes, most notably in gene regulation pathways and sometimes in cancer[1][3][5].
