Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1082 (LINC01082, also called TCONS_00024492) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) class, found on chromosome 16q24.1[7]. LINC01082 does not overlap protein-coding genes and is transcribed from non-coding DNA between coding regions[5]. Like other lincRNAs, it is thought to regulate gene expression and chromatin structure, possibly acting as a transcriptional regulator for neighboring or distant genes; its genomic location near the FOXF1 gene suggests a potential regulatory interaction. LINC01082 is expressed at reduced levels in several cancers, including colon and bladder cancer; experimental studies suggest it may act as a tumor suppressor by repressing cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in these disease contexts[1][5]. While lncRNAs such as LINC01082 are increasingly recognized for their regulatory impact on epigenetics, gene expression, and chromatin organization, detailed molecular mechanisms and protein interactors for this specific RNA remain incompletely characterized. There are currently no known drugs that directly target LINC01082, nor defined safety concerns associated with targeting it. Its reduced expression may serve as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis or prognosis, but its clinical application is still under investigation.
