Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1094 (LINC01094) is a cytoplasm-enriched long non-coding RNA that does not encode a protein but functions as a regulatory competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression[2][4]. LINC01094 promotes the proliferation, migration, and invasion while inhibiting apoptosis in multiple cancer types, including breast cancer, glioblastoma, renal cell carcinoma, and pancreatic cancer[1][2][4]. Its oncogenic actions primarily involve sponging microRNAs such as miR-340-5p and miR-577, thereby derepressing pro-proliferative and anti-apoptotic genes such as E2F3, BDNF, and LIN28B. LINC01094 is overexpressed in several malignancies and correlates with tumor progression and poor prognosis, making it a candidate diagnostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic RNA target in oncology[1][2][4]. At present, no direct drugs or inhibitors are reported to interact specifically with LINC01094, but targeting its expression or disrupting its microRNA interactions represents a speculative therapeutic strategy.

Mechanism of action

Acts as a sponge for specific microRNAs (e.g., miR-340-5p, miR-577); Upregulates pro-oncogenic targets (e.g., E2F3 in breast cancer, BDNF in glioblastoma, LIN28B in pancreatic cancer) by competitive binding to microRNAs.
