Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1102 (LINC01102) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) family. LINC01102 is an autonomously transcribed RNA longer than 200 nucleotides that does not overlap with annotated protein-coding genes. LincRNAs, including LINC01102, are transcribed by RNA polymerase II and typically share some processing features with mRNAs, such as capping and splicing, but are less efficiently spliced and polyadenylated. The family is known to regulate gene expression in a tissue-specific manner via diverse mechanisms, including chromatin remodeling, modulation of nuclear architecture, regulation of transcription (sometimes with enhancer-like activities), and stabilization of RNA transcripts. The specific functional roles, disease associations, and drug interactions of LINC01102 have not been well-characterized in the available literature, and it is not considered a canonical therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar molecular therapeutic class at this time.
