Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1116 (LINC01116, also known as TALNEC2) is a cytosolic long non-coding RNA of approximately 1,407 base pairs, transcribed from chromosome 2. It functions as a positive regulator of cell proliferation and tumorigenicity in various cancers, including glioblastoma, by promoting stemness, mesenchymal transition, and resistance to therapy in cancer stem cell populations. LINC01116 achieves many of its effects through competitive endogenous RNA mechanisms, sponging tumor-suppressive microRNAs and modulating oncogenic pathways (e.g., MDM2/p53, STAT3, VEGFA, MYC). Upregulation of LINC01116 has been identified as a biomarker of poor prognosis and increased malignancy in multiple cancer types and is under investigation as a therapeutic target; silencing it reduces tumor growth, cell migration, and resistance to radiation.
Not a classic drug target; acted on experimentally by silencing (knockdown) to block lncRNA function. Drugs or molecules that modulate LINC01116 typically do so by affecting its expression or interfering with its functional interactions (e.g., siRNA-mediated knockdown, small molecule inhibitors under investigation)
