Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1136 (LINC01136), also referred to as BTG2 divergent transcript (BTG2-DT), is a member of the long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that are transcribed from intergenic regions of the genome. As a divergent transcript, BTG2-DT is transcribed in the opposite direction of the protein-coding BTG2 gene, likely sharing promoter elements and regulatory features with BTG2[2]. Divergent lncRNAs are generally expressed at lower levels than their paired mRNA, are primarily located in the nucleus and chromatin fraction, and are believed to contribute to transcriptional and epigenetic regulation, particularly during development and differentiation[2]. Although LINC01136 is not a therapeutic target in the traditional sense (e.g., receptor, enzyme, transporter), lncRNAs as a class are increasingly studied for their roles as gene expression regulators, and they may have unexplored significance in pathogenesis of disease and as future therapeutic concepts. The specific biological and disease-related roles of BTG2-DT/LINC01136 are not well characterized; most of what is known is inferred from the general properties of divergent lncRNAs[2].
