LINC01149 has regulatory functions in gene expression, particularly by serving as a molecular sponge for microRNAs (notably miR-128-3p), impacting the expression of the immune activation ligand MICA. A specific genetic variant (rs2844512) modulates MICA expression, affecting immune responses to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma by recruiting and regulating NK-cell activity. While not a classical therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme), LINC01149 is implicated in immune regulation and oncogenesis, and its genetic variants may serve as biomarkers for disease susceptibility and prognosis[4][1].
