Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1176 (LINC01176) is a human long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), classified as a non-coding transcript longer than 200 nucleotides that does not encode proteins and does not overlap with protein-coding genes[1][3][5]. LINC01176 has been found to function as a regulatory RNA in gene expression by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA): it sponges microRNAs such as miR-218-5p, indirectly upregulating targets like IL-36G, a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in psoriasis pathogenesis[2]. Functional studies show that LINC01176 promotes keratinocyte proliferation, invasion, and inhibits apoptosis, suggesting a pathological role in psoriasis and possibly other proliferative or inflammatory disorders[2]. Its expression is positively correlated with disease severity in psoriasis, and its inhibition reduces inflammatory mediators in experimental animal models[2]. As with most lincRNAs, it is not a receptor, enzyme, or canonical drug target, and there are no drugs known to directly interact with LINC01176 at this time. Thus, LINC01176 is principally a regulatory RNA of research and biomarker interest, not a traditional therapeutic target[1][2][3][5].
