Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1186 (LINC01186), also known as ZNF674-1, is a member of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) family, specifically classified as a "long intergenic non-coding RNA" (lincRNA)[1][3]. LINC01186 does not code for a protein and is autonomously transcribed from a genomic region not overlapping protein-coding genes. LINC01186, like other lincRNAs, is thought to regulate gene expression through mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcription regulation, and fine-tuning expression of neighboring genes[1][3]. Recent research on related molecules (e.g., the functionally similar ZNF674-AS1) suggests these lncRNAs may act as tumor suppressors, for instance by inhibiting glycolysis pathway genes and hindering the proliferation, migration, and invasion of liver cancer cells[2]. LincRNAs frequently show tissue-specific expression, and only a small fraction of annotated lincRNAs have ascribed biological roles, many of which are linked to transcriptional control in development and disease[1]. LINC01186 is not a classical therapeutic target such as an enzyme, transporter, or receptor, but its expression profile and tumor-suppressive effects in certain cancers highlight its possible value as a biomarker or future RNA-based therapeutic target[2]. No drugs directly targeting LINC01186 are currently known.
