Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1198 (LINC01198) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), meaning it does not overlap protein-coding genes and is generally longer than 200 nucleotides[7][3]. LINC01198 has been shown to be upregulated in certain cancers, notably glioma, where elevated expression correlates with increased cellular proliferation, invasion, and poor patient prognosis[2][3]. Mechanistically, LINC01198 can be transcriptionally induced by the transcription factor STAT5A and acts to stabilize the RNA-binding protein DGCR8, thereby influencing miRNA biogenesis and downstream gene expression[2]. Recent studies also implicate LINC01198 in modulating immune responses in breast cancer and suggest possible involvement in chronic inflammatory diseases such as chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps[6][4]. It is considered a promising biomarker for cancer prognosis but is not currently established as a direct therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs that specifically modulate its activity[2][3][6][4].
