Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1224 (LINC01224) is an oncogenic long non-coding RNA broadly overexpressed in several human cancers. It functions mainly by acting as a competing endogenous RNA, sponging tumor suppressor microRNAs (notably miR-485-5p and miR-193a-5p), which leads to increased expression of pro-tumor proteins such as IGF2BP3, PAK4, AKT3, and CDK8. LINC01224 has been validated as promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibiting apoptosis in vitro and in vivo models of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, epithelial ovarian cancer, endometrial carcinoma, and gastric cancer. Its expression correlates with poor prognosis, and knockdown reduces tumor growth, positioning it as a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in oncology
