Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1234 (LINC01234) is a long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 12q24.13, annotated as non-protein coding and known by several aliases including MBOP, LCAL84, MEK1-binding oncopeptide, and onco-lncRNA-32. LINC01234 is frequently upregulated in multiple types of human cancers such as breast, colon, lung, gastric, liver cancer, and multiple myeloma. It promotes tumor cell proliferation, cycle progression, migration, and suppresses apoptosis, primarily by acting as a molecular sponge for specific tumor-suppressive microRNAs (such as miR-429, miR-642a-5p, and miR-124-3p), resulting in de-repression of oncogenic mRNA targets (such as SYNJ1, SHMT2, and possibly GRB2). LINC01234 has been identified as a potential prognostic biomarker and a putative therapeutic target in several cancers because of its oncogenic roles. However, there are currently no known approved drugs that selectively target LINC01234 directly, and available studies largely focus on preclinical and experimental RNA interference or antisense strategies.
Functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging tumor-suppressive microRNAs (such as miR-429, miR-642a-5p, miR-124-3p), thereby derepressing oncogenes and promoting cell proliferation and cancer progression
