Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1255 (LINC01255) is a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) gene that does not encode a protein but functions as a regulatory RNA molecule. LINC01255 is highly expressed in bone marrow cells of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and its elevated expression is correlated with poor prognosis in AML. Functional studies have shown that LINC01255 interacts with BMI1 protein and represses the transcription of MCP-1, leading to activation of the p53-p21 pathway; this results in inhibition of senescence in human mesenchymal stromal cells and promotes proliferation of AML cells. LINC01255 is not a protein receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but part of the large, diverse family of long non-coding RNAs involved in gene expression regulation, chromatin remodeling, and cell state maintenance. There is currently no direct evidence for drugs targeting LINC01255, nor is it established as a conventional therapeutic target.
