Overview

LINC01288 is a long intergenic non-coding RNA transcribed from non-coding regions of the human genome and is more than 200 nucleotides in length. Unlike protein-coding genes, LINC01288 functions as a regulator of gene expression, primarily by interacting with other RNA molecules. In non-small cell lung cancer, LINC01288 is upregulated, facilitating tumor cell viability, migration, growth, and metastatic potential. Mechanistically, LINC01288 binds to and stabilizes IL-6 mRNA, which promotes autocrine induction of IL-6 and subsequent activation of the STAT3 pathway, a driver of tumor progression[4]. This molecular function positions LINC01288 as both a potential prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target in certain cancers. There is no evidence that LINC01288 codes for a protein or functions as a classical receptor, enzyme, channel, or transporter. Its primary roles described to date are as a post-transcriptional modulator in cancer biology[1][4][5].
