Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1291 (LINC01291) is a cytoplasmic long non-coding RNA predominantly upregulated in melanoma tissues and cell lines. It acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by sponging microRNA-625-5p (miR-625-5p), thereby promoting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) expression, which drives melanoma cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and chemoresistance to cisplatin, while inhibiting apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Silencing LINC01291 suppresses tumor growth and progression, suggesting a pathogenic role in melanoma and indicating its potential as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target.
