Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1339 (LINC01339) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified as a lincRNA, meaning it is transcribed from a region of the genome located between protein-coding genes and does not encode a protein itself[1]. LINC01339 participates in the regulation of gene expression post-transcriptionally, commonly functioning by binding and sequestering specific microRNAs (miRNAs) to control the expression of downstream target genes[2]. In Wilms' tumor, LINC01339 is downregulated, while miR-135b-3p is upregulated; LINC01339 inhibits tumor growth and migration by acting as a "sponge" for miR-135b-3p, consequently promoting ADH1C expression[2]. Overexpression of LINC01339 suppresses Wilms’ tumor progression both in vitro and in vivo, suggesting its role as a potential tumor suppressor and therapeutic target in this pediatric renal cancer[2]. Therapeutically, LINC01339 (or its axis with miR-135b-3p/ADH1C) may offer potential as a biomarker or target for future treatments of certain cancers, but there are currently no known drugs that directly interact with this lincRNA, nor established safety concerns or therapeutic challenges reported to date[2][1].
