Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1356 (LINC01356) is a cytoplasm-localized long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) with elevated expression in certain cancer cell lines, exosomes, and in the plasma of patients with brain metastasis from lung cancer[2][4]. Experimental studies indicate that exosomal LINC01356 can regulate blood-brain barrier permeability, possibly by downregulating tight junction and adhesion proteins (including Occludin, Claudin-5, and N-cadherin), thereby enhancing the ability of cancer cells to cross the BBB and seed brain metastases[4]. LINC01356 also exhibits cell-type specific expression in pluripotent stem cells, suggesting context-dependent biological functions[2]. While it is not a protein-coding receptor, enzyme, or classic therapeutic target, it may serve as a biomarker for metastatic potential and as a modulator of cell signaling in the tumor microenvironment[2][4].
