Overview

LINC01360 (Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1360) is a human gene encoding a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) transcript. It is located on chromosome 1 (cytogenetic region 1p31, 1:73305609-73355255) and is expressed with tissue specificity, most notably in the testis. Its exact function remains unknown, as is typical for many annotated lincRNAs, but it may be involved in transcriptional regulation and the modulation of neighboring gene expression through epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation and chromatin remodeling. Genetic polymorphisms in the promoter, notably a human-specific Alu insertion, have been shown to regulate its transcriptional activity and are linked with disease association in genome-wide association studies, especially with major depressive disorder. There are no known drugs directly targeting LINC01360, and no functional mechanism of action, safety concerns, or clinical biomarkers have been established beyond its potential association with transcriptional silencing variants.
