CASC22 (Cancer susceptibility 22), also referenced as LINC01373, is a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) not overlapping any protein-coding gene. LincRNAs are defined by being longer than 200 nucleotides, frequently regulating chromatin structure, gene expression, and sometimes possessing tissue- or disease-specific functions. While many lincRNAs have established roles in cancer, development, and cell cycle regulation, the specific biological or disease-related function of CASC22 remains uncharacterized in the literature currently available; its designation as "cancer susceptibility" is based on systematic annotation rather than experimental mechanism. CASC22 is transcribed but does not code for a protein and is believed to function primarily through RNA-based modification of gene regulatory networks, consistent with lincRNAs as a group.
