Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1391 (LINC01391) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that does not encode a protein, but plays functional regulatory roles, particularly in cancer biology. It is markedly downregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines. Overexpression of LINC01391 inhibits proliferation, migration, invasion, and aerobic glycolysis of gastric cancer cells, while knockdown produces the opposite effects. LINC01391 acts through a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism, primarily by sponging miR-12116 and thereby upregulating CMTM2 expression. This molecular axis contributes to the tumor-suppressive role of LINC01391 in gastric cancer progression. Low expression of LINC01391 correlates with lymph node metastasis, advanced TNM stage, larger tumor size, and poorer patient prognosis. There are currently no drugs known to directly target LINC01391, and its principal value is as a functional biomarker and potential research tool in oncology, not as a traditional therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme[1][2][3].
