Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1436 (LINC01436) is a human long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 21q22.12. It produces a non-coding RNA transcript predominantly localized in the cytoplasm, where it plays roles in posttranscriptional regulation. LINC01436 functions mainly as a competing endogenous RNA—sequestering specific microRNAs like miR-30a-3p and miR-513a-5p—to upregulate oncogenic targets (such as EPAS1 and APE1), thereby promoting proliferation, migration, and invasion of cancer cells. High expression of LINC01436 is associated with poor prognosis in several cancer types, particularly non-small cell lung cancer and gastric cancer, making it a potential biomarker for cancer progression rather than a classical therapeutic target[1][2][4][7].

Mechanism of action

Acts as a competitive endogenous RNA or “miRNA sponge” to regulate the availability and effect of tumor-suppressive microRNAs (miR-30a-3p in lung cancer, miR-513a-5p in gastric cancer), leading to increased expression of oncogenes such as EPAS1 and APE1
