Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1489 (LINC01489) is a human gene producing a long non-coding RNA transcript (>200 nucleotides) that does not encode protein and resides in a region of the genome that does not overlap protein-coding genes. lincRNAs, as a category, are involved in diverse cellular mechanisms such as regulation of gene expression, chromatin structure, transcriptional activation/repression, and sometimes enhancer-associated activity. Only a small fraction of lincRNAs are functionally characterized, and LINC01489 currently has no documented regulatory or disease-related activity. It is one among thousands of uncharacterized lincRNAs annotated through genome-wide projects. LINC01489’s function has not been specifically studied or described in major databases or publications. Most knowledge is inferred from the general properties of lincRNAs: they are abundant, have tissue-specific expression, and can participate in regulation but often lack direct functional annotation. While other lincRNAs have shown links to cancer and other diseases, LINC01489 is not documented as such.
