Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1497 (LINC01497) is a non-protein-coding RNA gene classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA)[1][5]. LincRNAs are autonomously transcribed RNA molecules longer than 200 nucleotides that do not overlap any protein-coding genes[3][7]. They are involved in the modulation of gene expression, primarily by remodeling chromatin structure, regulating transcription at nearby (cis) or distant (trans) sites, and potentially contributing to RNA stabilization and genome architecture[3][7]. Most lincRNAs, including LINC01497, do not encode peptides or proteins and are thought to exert their biological effects through RNA-based mechanisms[3]. LINC01497 has been mapped in GWAS studies as being associated with intergenic regulatory variants but there is little to no direct evidence that it serves as a therapeutic target, or that it is directly involved in a specific disease mechanism at this time[5]. No drugs, clinical biomarkers, or notable safety considerations are currently associated with this RNA, as it is not a classical pharmacological or clinical target.
