CYTOR (LINC00152) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), approximately 828–852 base pairs, located on human chromosome 2p11.2, primarily expressed in the cytoplasm and occasionally in the nucleus. CYTOR acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging microRNAs and interacting with chromatin-modifying complexes such as PRC2, thus regulating a wide variety of downstream genes and pathways critical for tumor progression, cell proliferation, invasion, EMT, and therapy resistance. It is overexpressed in many cancers and correlated with tumor aggressiveness and poor outcomes, serving as a promising biomarker and a potential (experimental) therapeutic target; no drugs are approved to target it, but antisense and RNA interference modalities are under investigation. Its incomplete conservation in model organisms presents challenges for translational research and therapeutic development.
