Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1550 (LINC01550) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene, classified specifically as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA). It does not encode a protein, but instead functions as an RNA molecule involved in gene regulation. LINC01550 is notably downregulated in certain human cancers, such as melanoma and colorectal cancer, where its reduced expression is associated with poor prognosis and increased tumor aggressiveness. Experimental upregulation of LINC01550 in melanoma models inhibits cell proliferation and invasion, while promoting apoptosis and causing cell cycle arrest, indicating a tumor-suppressive function. In colorectal cancer, LINC01550 is also significantly downregulated and thought to play a regulatory role in gene networks relevant to cancer pathways, possibly through the competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism. No direct drugs or biologics target LINC01550, nor is it currently considered a direct therapeutic target such as receptors or enzymes, but its expression profile may have biomarker utility in cancer prognosis.
