Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1551 (LINC01551) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), specifically classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), which means it does not overlap any protein-coding gene and lacks protein-coding potential[7][5]. It has been shown to be upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and acts by sponging microRNA-122-5p, thereby regulating the expression of ADAM10 and promoting the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCC cells[1][2]. Its regulatory function occurs in the cytoplasm, primarily through a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism affecting gene expression post-transcriptionally[1]. LINC01551 is also implicated in other diseases through dysregulation, and its elevated expression has been identified as a potential biomarker in cancerous tissues[4]. There are no current drugs or therapies reported to target LINC01551 directly, nor are there established uses as a pharmacological target. The designation "Uncharacterized protein" reflects previous annotation conventions; functionally, LINC01551 is not a protein but rather an RNA molecule.
