Overview

LINC01564 (Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1564) is a human long non-coding RNA gene primarily classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA)[1][3][5]. It is highly expressed in various cancer tissues, notably gastric cancer, and acts in the cytoplasm where it can bind and stabilize the mRNA of the transcription factor POU2F1 by forming an RNA duplex[2]. This action protects POU2F1 mRNA from miRNA-mediated degradation, leading to increased POU2F1 levels, which in turn promotes cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer cells[2]. Experimental evidence demonstrates that silencing or overexpressing LINC01564 in cell and animal models respectively decreases or increases tumorigenic characteristics such as proliferation and metastasis. While LINC01564 itself is not currently considered a therapeutic protein target, its expression and biological activity are associated with cancer progression and may serve as a biomarker or a candidate for future therapeutic intervention via RNA-targeted approaches[2][3].
