Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1594 (LINC01594) is a type of long noncoding RNA that does not code for proteins. It is significantly upregulated in colorectal cancer and is associated with poor prognosis. Mechanistically, LINC01594 acts as a scaffold for the enzyme DNMT1, leading to increased methylation of the CELF6 promoter and reduced CELF6 expression. LINC01594 also competitively binds to the transcription factor p53, further decreasing CELF6 levels. This regulatory cascade inhibits CELF6-mediated exon skipping of CD44, a process implicated in cancer metastasis. Thus, LINC01594 contributes to tumor progression and metastasis and is under investigation as a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target for colorectal cancer.
