Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 160 (LINC00160) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) family, a subclass of long non-coding RNAs that are over 200 nucleotides in length and do not overlap with protein-coding genes. LINC00160 does not encode a protein but functions through RNA-mediated mechanisms, primarily by regulating transcription and chromatin states. It has been shown to play a role in **cancer biology**, particularly in promoting **drug resistance** (e.g., resistance to paclitaxel, doxorubicin, and sunitinib) in breast and renal cell carcinoma by recruiting transcription factors to regulate genes involved in cell proliferation, migration, and drug efflux. Upregulation of LINC00160 in cancer correlates with poorer responses to therapy and increased malignancy. It is not a canonical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme, but is of high interest as a regulatory RNA contributing to disease phenotype and drug resistance.
Recruitment of transcription factors to modulate downstream gene expression (e.g., recruitment of C/EBPβ to regulate TFF3 in breast cancer, and TFAP2A to activate SAA1 in renal cell carcinoma); Modulation of drug efflux via upregulation of ABCB1 transporter through the SAA1 axis; Activation of key signaling pathways (e.g., JAK-STAT pathway)
