Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1616 (LINC01616) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA family. These are autonomously transcribed RNA sequences, typically longer than 200 nucleotides, whose gene loci do not overlap with known protein-coding genes. LINC01616, along with similar lincRNAs, is thought to play regulatory roles in transcription, chromatin architecture, and potentially in tissue-specific gene expression, but its direct functions, disease associations, and interactions remain poorly characterized. The lincRNA class has been implicated in diverse regulatory activities in development and disease, with some members having proven biomarker relevance in cancer and neurological disorders, but no specific and validated roles have been attributed to LINC01616 itself as of current literature.
