Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1619 (LINC01619) is a human long noncoding RNA gene, not encoding a protein, but functioning in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. It acts as a competing endogenous RNA ('sponge') for microRNAs such as miR-27a and miR-129-5p, influencing the activity of their target genes. LINC01619 regulates endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress pathways and podocyte injury in diabetic nephropathy by modulating the miR-27a/forkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1) axis[1]. In cancer, LINC01619 is upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer and promotes tumor growth and stem cell-like features by regulating the miR-129-5p/PAX6 pathway[2]. The expression and activity of LINC01619 have been associated with disease prognosis, especially in cancer and kidney disease, but it is not a classical drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Consequently, there are no approved drugs targeting LINC01619, nor established safety concerns or mechanisms of direct pharmacologic modulation of this RNA.
