Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 163 (LINC00163) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) identified in various tissues, including the hypothalamus.[9][1][5] It acts as a regulator at the RNA level without encoding a protein, participating in gene regulation networks. In gastric cancer, LINC00163 functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by binding to and inhibiting miR-183, thereby upregulating the tumor suppressor AKAP12 and inhibiting cancer cell invasion and metastasis[2][4][9]. Reduced expression of LINC00163 has been linked to worse prognosis and greater metastatic potential in gastric cancer, making it a potential biomarker and candidate for prognostic assessment. LINC00163 and its axis with miR-183/AKAP12 is under exploration for its mechanistic and possibly therapeutic significance in cancer. The gene has also been studied as a "narcolepsy candidate-region gene," though functional and disease associations here are less established in the literature.[9] No currently known drugs directly target LINC00163, and it is not considered a classical drug target such as a receptor or enzyme.
