Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1649 (LINC01649) is a human long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) gene. LincRNAs are transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides that do not overlap with protein-coding genes and are not translated into proteins. Instead, they play regulatory roles at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, including chromatin modification, regulation of gene expression, and occasionally acting as molecular scaffolds or decoys. LincRNAs may function in a tissue-specific manner and are often involved in the fine-tuning of gene expression, although the precise biological role of LINC01649 itself remains largely uncharacterized[1][3][5]. Unlike classic therapeutic targets such as enzymes or receptors, lincRNAs generally serve as regulatory molecules rather than direct drug targets. If LINC01649 is of specific interest as a therapeutic or diagnostic target, there is as yet no evidence that it has been directly implicated in a particular disease or targeted by drug therapies in the scientific literature[1][3][5].
