Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 165 (LINC00165) is a member of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) family, specifically classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), meaning it is transcribed from genomic regions that do not overlap protein-coding genes. LINC00165 is upregulated in gastric cancer, where it promotes cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, correlating with worse tumor stage and survival outcomes. Mechanistically, LINC00165 acts as a nuclear scaffold for the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2, supporting epigenetic regulation such as the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in cancer cells. Its expression is induced by the transcription factor STAT3. Although LINC00165 is associated with poor prognosis in gastric cancer and may have value as a biomarker, neither it nor its gene product is currently considered a therapeutic target, and there are no drugs directly targeting it as of the available evidence.

02

Mechanism of action

Not targeted by drugs; functions as scaffold for Polycomb Repressive Complex 2, mediates epigenetic regulation

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expressionChromatin remodeling (scaffold for Polycomb Repressive Complex 2)Promotion of cell proliferationPromotion of cell migration and invasion (notably in gastric cancer)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably gastric cancer; high expression linked to advanced tumor features and poor prognosis)Possible broader roles in other diseases via general lncRNA mechanisms, but specific evidence for LINC00165 outside cancer is currently limited.
05

Safety considerations

None specifically described for therapeutic targeting, as it is not a current drug target
06

Biomarkers

High expression may serve as a prognostic biomarker in gastric cancer
