Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1672 (LINC01672) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that does not encode a protein but is instead presumed to play regulatory roles at the RNA level[1][3][7]. It has been associated with the alternative name "NMR" and described as an NSUN2-methylated lncRNA, reflecting its modification by the RNA methyltransferase NSUN2, which catalyzes 5-methylcytosine (m5C) marks in various RNA species[1][6]. LINC01672 has been studied in large-scale cancer datasets and is implicated among lncRNAs whose expression may be modulated by m5C methylation[4]. There is emerging evidence that m5C-related lncRNAs, including LINC01672, have roles in cancer biology, particularly in gene expression modulation and possibly in tumor progression; however, LINC01672 itself is not a classic therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs are known to interact with it directly[3][4]. It is primarily classified as a lncRNA, and its cancer-related functions are thought to arise through epigenetic regulation and RNA-level gene expression control, rather than protein-mediated signaling.
