Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1679 (LINC01679) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 21 (chr21:43,358,055-43,365,330, GRCh38). LINC01679 does not encode a protein, but instead regulates gene expression at the RNA level. In prostate cancer, LINC01679 functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that inhibits cancer progression by sponging miR-3150a-3p and regulating SLC17A9 expression. Downregulation of LINC01679 has been associated with enhanced tumor proliferation, migration, invasion, suppressed apoptosis, higher PSA and Gleason scores, and poorer prognosis in prostate cancer. Its primary mechanism is the inhibition of tumor cell growth via the miR-3150a-3p/SLC17A9 pathway. There are currently no known drugs targeting LINC01679 itself, and it is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Context and clarification: - LINC01679 is not a protein, receptor, or druggable target in the conventional sense, but a noncoding RNA with regulatory function. - It is primarily relevant as a biomarker or putative tumor suppressor in prostate cancer. - No direct interactions with approved drugs or established mechanisms of action for pharmacological targeting have been reported.
