LINC01697 (long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1697) is a human long intergenic non-coding RNA gene. LincRNAs such as LINC01697 belong to a class of regulatory RNAs that do not encode proteins but can modulate cellular gene expression at multiple levels, including chromatin modification, transcription, and RNA stability. LINC01697 has been identified in transcriptomic studies as differentially expressed in certain cancers, and its expression has been associated with patient prognosis and disease risk, particularly in lung squamous cell carcinoma. LINC01697 likely acts by influencing the expression of adjacent or distant genes, consistent with the regulatory roles described for lincRNAs in general. While altered LINC01697 levels may serve as a biomarker in oncology, there are currently no direct therapeutics targeting this molecule. Note: LINC01697 should not be confused with protein-coding targets or receptors. Its main importance lies in biomarker discovery and the emerging understanding of lncRNA regulatory networks in human disease.
