Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1703 (LINC01703) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) overexpressed in several cancers, notably non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and colorectal cancer. LINC01703 facilitates malignant cellular behaviors, including increased proliferation, migration, and invasion, as well as decreased apoptosis. Mechanistically, LINC01703 acts as a cytoplasmic competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sponges microRNAs (such as miR-605-3p and miR-205-5p), leading to upregulation of oncogenic proteins such as MACC1 and E2F1, and promoting activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. These activities drive cancer aggressiveness and poor prognosis. Knockdown of LINC01703 inhibits tumor growth in preclinical models. Due to its cancer-specific expression patterns and functional roles, LINC01703 is considered a promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarker, and is being explored as a therapeutic target in cancer research.
