Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1748 (LINC01748) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) of the lincRNA subclass, transcribed but not translated into protein. It is found overexpressed in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where it acts in the cytoplasm as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by sponging microRNA miR-520a-5p. This sponging releases suppression of the oncogene HMGA1, promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumor growth, while inhibiting apoptosis. High LINC01748 expression predicts poor prognosis in NSCLC patients. While not currently considered a direct therapeutic target, it represents a potential biomarker and regulatory node in cancer signaling networks[1][2][7].
No approved or investigational drugs act on LINC01748 itself. However, its mechanistic role in cancer is as a molecular sponge for miR-520a-5p, indirectly regulating HMGA1, a known oncogene in cancer biology[1].
