Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1787 (LINC01787) is a long non-coding RNA implicated in cancer biology, particularly in breast cancer. LINC01787 is upregulated in breast cancer tissues, where it enhances cancer cell proliferation and migration and suppresses apoptosis. Mechanistically, LINC01787 binds directly to precursor miR-125b (pre-miR-125b) and inhibits its cleavage by the enzyme DICER, leading to the accumulation of pre-miR-125b and a decrease in mature miR-125b levels. Since miR-125b acts as a tumor suppressor, this results in increased expression of its downstream targets and drives tumor progression. High LINC01787 expression is associated with advanced clinical stage and poor patient prognosis, making it both a potential therapeutic target and a biomarker for disease progression in breast cancer[3][5][1].
LINC01787 binds the precursor form of miR-125b (pre-miR-125b), suppressing its processing by DICER, resulting in decreased levels of mature miR-125b[3][5].
