Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1806 (LINC01806) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) of the lincRNA subclass, which means it is a transcript longer than 200 nucleotides that does not overlap protein-coding genes[1][3][5]. It is highly upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues and cell lines and experimentally shown to play an oncogenic role in NSCLC[2][4]. Mechanistic studies indicate that LINC01806 is transcriptionally activated by STAT1 and acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging microRNA-4428 (miR-4428) to boost the expression of Notch receptor 2 (NOTCH2), thereby activating the Notch signaling pathway[2][4]. LINC01806 promotes NSCLC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, stemness, and tumor growth in vivo, while its knockdown inhibits these processes[2][4]. As an RNA molecule, LINC01806 is not a canonical therapeutic protein target such as a receptor or enzyme—rather, it may serve as a molecular biomarker or a potential non-coding RNA target for experimental therapies, mainly in the context of cancer biology[2][4]. No drugs are currently known to bind or target LINC01806 directly.
