Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1821 (LINC01821) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) family, defined as autonomously transcribed RNAs longer than 200 nucleotides that do not encode proteins or overlap coding genes. LINC01821, like other lincRNAs, is believed to be involved in epigenetic and transcriptional regulation, including remodeling of chromatin structure, modulating the expression of neighboring or distal genes, and serving as a molecular scaffold for regulatory proteins or complexes. LincRNAs such as LINC01821 can exert their functions through sequence-dependent or sequence-independent mechanisms and are noted for their tissue specificity and regulatory versatility. Genetic and expression profiling studies have implicated LINC01821 as a potential diagnostic biomarker in gastric cancer, but no currently approved drugs are known to interact with this RNA molecule, and its use as a therapeutic target is not established[1][4][7].
