Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1825 (LINC01825) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) subclass of long non-coding RNAs. These are RNA transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides that do not overlap protein-coding genes. LINC01825, like other lincRNAs, does not encode a protein but is transcribed as an RNA molecule potentially involved in the regulation of gene expression, chromatin architecture, or RNA stability. While the functional characterization of individual lincRNAs is ongoing, this class of molecule is known for regulating gene activity (frequently in a sequence- and context-dependent or gene neighborhood-specific manner), modifying chromatin states, and modulating transcription factor access or stabilization of mRNA. Only a minority of lincRNAs have been experimentally linked to specific diseases or pathways, and for LINC01825, there is currently no evidence supporting a direct disease association or a role as a therapeutic target.
